The remains of Mallam Awwal Yakubu, a Qur’anic (Islamiyya) teacher who had been missing for several days, were discovered in a state of decomposition inside an uncompleted building at the Talba Housing Estate in Minna, Niger State.
The father of seven was last seen on Thursday before his body was located on Sunday morning.
Details gathered from the scene indicate that his body had burn marks on his private parts, with a pack of matches found nearby.
Mallam Mahmud Dalhatu Iya, a local community leader, confirmed that the family identified the body and proceeded with burial arrangements. He explained, “We received a report about a decomposed body in a building under construction in our estate. We notified the police. While there, someone who recognized him mentioned he had been missing since Thursday. His body has now been prepared for burial.”
The Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, also confirmed the tragedy.
He stated, “At approximately 10 a.m. today, December 7th, 2025, a report was received concerning a corpse found behind Talba Estate, Bida Road, Kpakungu. Officers were dispatched and found a decomposed body, which was subsequently identified by relatives as 45-year-old Auwal Yakubu.”
Abiodun further indicated that investigators suspect the body might have been dumped at that location, noting that Yakubu was reported missing on December 4th.
He concluded that the body has been transferred to a hospital, and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause and circumstances of his death.
