Two individuals were killed on Saturday after a passenger bus and a truck collided head-on on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway, specifically near the Ososa section in Ogun State.
The accident was confirmed on Sunday by Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).
Akinbiyi reported that 21 people were involved in the crash, which included a yellow Toyota Hiace bus (with registration number BDG 274YG) and a blue Benz truck (with registration number AKD 115YL).
The TRACE spokesperson indicated that the collision was caused by the bus, which was reportedly traveling in the wrong direction (against traffic) when it hit the truck.
While the precise number of injured passengers was not specified, several people sustained injuries in the incident.
Akinbiyi explained, “The fatal accident occurred at Ososa slope, traveling inbound to Sagamu from Ijebu-Ode. Eyewitness accounts suggest the bus was driving against traffic when it crashed directly into the truck.”
The bodies of the two deceased victims were transported to the morgue at Ijebu-Ode General Hospital, where the injured survivors are also receiving medical care.
Following the crash, both vehicles were cleared from the road and transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Obalende Division in Ijebu-Ode, for comprehensive investigation.
