Defection: PDP: Governor Adeleke was a victim of circumstances

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has characterized the defection of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as a case of a victim of circumstance, with the party’s factional National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, arguing that the problem was human-caused and, therefore, should have been addressed with a human solution. Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Ememobong implied a “vicarious” liability, criticizing the party leadership for failing to act decisively when the decline began in 2023, noting that by ignoring the internal issues and thinking time would solve them, the party essentially “fed the monster” that eventually consumed its members. He explained that although the leadership attempted negotiations, hoping that cooled passions would lead to a reconsideration of positions, this unfortunately did not happen, leading up to the controversial convention in Ibadan. According to Ememobong, the governor’s exit is the result of these circumstances and vicarious liabilities, from which Adeleke cannot completely absolve himself.
