In a statement to Naija News on Friday night, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed that three officers were hospitalized following gunshot wounds they received during a raid operation in the Jahi neighborhood of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Thursday night. The officers were attacked by armed men shortly after they successfully raided an unfinished building in the NNPC neighborhood of Jahi.
Following intelligence and surveillance reports, the NDLEA team raided the site and seized illegal items, including five Android phones, 4.9 kilograms of skunk (a strong strain of cannabis), 48 grams of tramadol (225 mg), 10 liters of codeine syrup, and 74 bottles of codeine.
However, the squad was ambushed by gunmen who opened fire on them as they were leaving the building. Two cops were wounded in the leg and back, while one officer was shot in the ribs.
Prior to being sent to the National Hospital in Abuja for additional care, the injured officers were stabilized in the Garki Area 1 Police Clinic.
NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), expressed gratitude to the medical personnel at both facilities.
He specifically commended the staff at the Police Clinic for their swift intervention and thanked the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital, whom he contacted personally to ensure the injured officers received urgent care.
While in Kano for official duties, Marwa also spoke with the injured officers over the phone to wish them a speedy recovery.
He vowed that the NDLEA would leave no stone unturned in tracking down the perpetrators of the attack, pledging to work closely with other security agencies to bring them to justice.
