The Continuous Voter Registration, or CVR, campaign that starts on July 8 in Anambra is exclusively for the state’s November 8 governorship election, according to clarification from the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
Elizabeth Agwu, the state’s resident electoral commissioner, announced this at a press conference in Awka on Thursday.
She added that the CVR for the governorship election will start on July 8 and end on July 17, but that it did not apply to the Senate and House of Assembly bye-elections.
The state’s eligible voters are being urged to turn out in large numbers to either register again or update their biodata if needed. The Resident Commissioner also stressed that the exercise will take place every day from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, including Saturdays but not Mondays.
While data revalidation or adjustments can be completed online, fresh registration must be completed in person at specific INEC offices. No one will be registered in absentia by INEC.
Additionally, she stated that the registration portal would automatically close at 3:00 p.m. every day, thus registrations made after the authorized time will not be accepted.
Agwu urged citizens to take advantage of the chance and cautioned eligible voters from paying for voter registration, stating that it is against the law.
In order to have a say in who leads them, she encouraged them to register and cast ballots in the next gubernatorial election.
