In response to recent remarks made by state governor Abba Yusuf regarding the party’s choice not to field a candidate in the recently concluded Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency bye-election, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chapter in Kano State has responded.
According to a statement made by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the DAILY POST previously reported that the NDC’s lack of participation in the by-election was an indication that the All Progressives Congress, or APC, would win in 2027.
Hussaini Isa Mai Riga, the NDC Chairman in Kano State, responded by saying that the party is not sidetracked by political remarks meant to gain quick points.
He claims that in order to prepare for the general elections in 2027, the party’s efforts are currently focused on creating a strong, people-centered structure throughout all 44 local government areas in Kano State.
“NDC is a disciplined and strategic party. We are not weak if we miss one bye-election. It indicates that our attention is on the greater picture. In a statement released by his media assistant, Adam Said Adam, he stated, “Our top priorities are to strengthen our grassroots base, unite our members, and present credible candidates that Kano people can trust in 2027.”
The Chairman emphasised that the party will not waste money on elections that do not support its long-term goals because it has learned from the political history of Kano and Nigeria as a whole. Rather, NDC will make investments in political education, mobilisation, and policy creation that tackles the issues of unemployment, insecurity, and financial hardship that common people face.
Mai Riga expressed confidence that the NDC will win the upcoming governorship election thanks to the backing of Kano locals and the power of the Kwankwasiyya movement within the party.
He advised NDC members in Kano to maintain composure, refrain from provocation, and carry on with their legal political participation. Additionally, he urged security services to maintain objectivity and guarantee fairness in the face of escalating political activity.
The NDC Kano Chapter reiterates its dedication to providing Kano State residents with good governance, democratic principles, and issue-based politics.
