As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived on an official visit to commission important infrastructure projects carried out by Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration, Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, came to a near complete halt on Wednesday.
Even though the state government had not officially announced a holiday, the city saw widespread closures, with both public and private schools closing and students staying at home.
The city’s streets and stores were abnormally quiet, and many business owners and civil servants abstained from their typical operations.
Massive groups of locals, including schoolchildren and political supporters, lined the main thoroughfares ahead of the president’s arrival, singing slogans and waving banners in favor of Governor Sule and President Tinubu.
Final preparations were being made at important locations, although the president had not yet arrived in Lafia as of the time of publication.
The masses enduring long waits behind strict security were surprisingly comforted by the day’s unexpectedly cold and cloudy weather.
As part of increased security measures, there were considerable restrictions on the movement of vehicles into and inside Lafia.
Several commercial motorcyclists who attempted to bypass blocked roads were reportedly harassed or forcefully dispersed by security personnel manning the restricted zones.
President Tinubu’s visit is widely regarded as a politically strategic moment for Nasarawa State, where he is expected to unveil and inaugurate multiple state-funded infrastructure projects.
Additionally, given the recent sighting of the North Central Development Commission Headquarters in Lafia, the tour signifies continued federal-state cooperation on development goals.
Along with Gover, Sule, and other dignitaries, former Nasarawa governors Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and former APC chairman Adamu Abdullahi will welcome President Bola Tinubu to Nasarawa State on his working visit to commission important infrastructure projects. Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje is the APC’s national chairman.
