Olusegun Mimiko, a former governor of Ondo State, said that President Bola Tinubu’s significant reforms were the reason he decided to join the All Progressives Congress, or APC.
After formally joining the APC on Thursday, Mimiko made the declaration. Ondo State APC Chairman Kolawole Babatunde and State House of Assembly Speaker Olamide Oladiji welcomed him and his supporters in Ondo City.
He claimed that his decision was motivated by his support for the Tinubu administration’s continued initiatives to advance national development, progress, and peace.
Mimiko admitted that his political stance was influenced by the administration’s economic reforms and policy direction, even though there are still difficulties.
“I am coming in to lend my support to ongoing efforts to keep Nigeria on the path of peace, progress, and genuine development,” he stated. “The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government is doing a lot of good things, and though much more will still have to be done.”
He also mentioned current debates about decentralised policing, pointing out that the idea is consistent with his long-standing belief in state policing.
Mimiko’s defection, according to APC State Chairman Kolawole Babatunde, is a “homecoming,” reflecting the party’s increasing popularity in the state.
According to Joseph Iranola Akinlaja, a former federal lawmaker, Mimiko’s defection would improve the party’s political prospects ahead of upcoming elections and strengthen its structure in Ondo State.
