While worries about continued kidnappings in the state continue, a significant security operation in Zamfara State has killed dozens of bandits, providing some comfort to the impacted communities.
On the condition of anonymity, a resident of Dan Jibga in Tsafe Local Government Area informed DAILY POST that a large-scale attack on Kunchin Kalgo village on Saturday night was successfully repelled by security officers and paid vigilantes from Borno State.
The conflict persisted until April 5, 2026, Sunday morning.
According to the source, “about 400 bandits riding motorcycles stormed the village with the intention of attacking; during the clash, between 80 and 100 of them were neutralized, including another top commander, Dogo Bete, and Kachalla Iliya Sarki, son of notorious bandit leader Ado Aleiro.”
After a protracted period of insecurity, locals are expressing relief as normalcy gradually returns following the operation.
Amnesty International has denounced the recent spate of kidnappings in Zamfara despite this development, characterizing the situation as one that shows insufficient attention by authorities.
Isah Sunusi, the country director, told DAILY POST that the violence that is still occurring in some places of Nigeria shows a lack of decisive action.
“Whether in the Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, Sokoto, or Katsina, the top priority is to put an end to the killings that people are experiencing; enough is enough.” “The government needs to put an end to this violence,” he declared.
Despite officials’ repeated promises to stop the banditry and mass kidnappings, Zamfara continues to be one of Nigeria’s most impacted states.
