Ondo: After three weeks in captivity, the son of an abducted pastor is freed

Victor Oluwatobi, a nine-year-old boy who was kidnapped by gunmen in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area, Ondo State, has been liberated after being held captive for three weeks.

Through the combined efforts of security agencies, the child—the son of a local pastor—was safely recovered on Sunday and reunited with his family. On the evening of June 5, 2026, armed men broke into Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun and abducted Victor.

During the invasion, the attackers allegedly demolished two properties in an attempt to kidnap a landlord, who was able to flee.

The young boy was left sleeping because Pastor Oluwatobi was unable to get all of his kids to safety during the ensuing commotion.

Then the attackers carried him away and imprisoned him.

The Nigerian Army, the Police, the Amotekun Corps, and local vigilante groups participated in a coordinated security operation organised by the Ondo State Government after the incident.

In an effort to ensure the child’s release, the security teams reportedly carried out extensive search operations throughout woodlands and nearby settlements.

On Sunday, the youngster was saved unharmed and reunited with his family, demonstrating the success of their efforts.

Idowu Ajanaku, the Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, confirmed the situation and praised the security personnel as well as everyone who contributed in any way to the successful rescue effort.
