Josef Onoh, a former spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, has criticized former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, labeling him hypocritical for his recent demands regarding the EFCC. Onoh’s remarks came after Malami suggested that EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede should step down from investigations involving him due to a potential conflict of interest. Onoh argued that Malami is attempting to intimidate the anti-corruption agency and urged him to cooperate with the probe rather than claiming political persecution. He pointed out that during Malami’s own tenure, the government frequently ignored court orders and politicized legal actions, specifically citing the removal of Ibrahim Magu and the long-term detentions of Sambo Dasuki and Nnamdi Kanu despite judicial rulings. Onoh dismissed the idea that Olukoyede’s past role on a judicial panel disqualifies him from his current duties, asserting that no former official is above the law and that Malami should defend his record through the proper legal channels.
