Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the representative for Abia North Senatorial District, has publicly criticized the actions of certain individuals whom he claims are causing instability in Nigeria’s South-East region.
During an appearance on Arise Television on Sunday, the lawmaker issued a strong caution that no one should gain from the turmoil and disruption of the Igboland.
Kalu made these remarks while discussing the national situation, during which he also rejected the accusation that he is financially supporting the groups known as ‘Autopilot’ or the ‘Biafra Restoration Group.’
“I have never heard of that name, and I would not support such an activity,” Kalu stated. He emphasized his commitment to living in a Nigeria characterized by fairness and equal rights. Recalling his time as governor, he said, “I was governor. I established the Bakassi, and the Bakassi was in charge.” He stressed again that no individual should profit from destabilizing the Igbo territory.
The Senator urged the young people involved to take both Nigeria and the Igbo people seriously and cease their disruptive activities. He called for an end to the current disagreements, suggesting, “We should be tired of this faction. We should focus on how to progress and how to use political means to resolve the issues facing the Igbos.”
He noted that the Igbos are not taken seriously when matters like this arise. Kalu advised the agitators to abandon their “old-fashioned way of doing these things” and instead find constructive ways to re-establish the prominence of the Igbo people within the national framework.
