The lawsuit filed by the legal team of Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi against African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader Kenneth Okonkwo has been criticised by Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni.
After the NDC primary elections in the South East, Obi had taken the actor-turned-politician to court for allegedly defaming him on national television.
According to the DAILY POST, Okonkwo claimed in a recent interview that the NDC presidential candidate and other party leaders in the area accepted bribes from candidates running for senatorial and House of Representatives seats.
Obi’s camp fiercely contested the claim, which resulted in a defamation lawsuit and a seven-day deadline for Okonkwo to back down.
Speaking on the Arise TV morning show, Rufai called Okonkwo a “political surrogate” and advised Obi to stop wasting time on the case.
Rufai explained that the lawsuit magnified the accusations and that Okonkwo’s claim only made headlines after Obi attacked him.
“If I were to advise Mr. Peter Obi, I would ask him to remove that case from the court,” he declared.
“He is not in need. Many people probably didn’t even hear Kenneth Okonkwo say it. When Peter Obi sued him, it made headlines.
“You just gave this guy media attention; let him speak as he pleases; your best option is to dispute it. It’s not everything to which you respond.
