Liverpool defeated Fulham 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday thanks to a spectacular, record-breaking first goal from Rio Ngumoha.
The youthful player set additional records in the English Premier League evening match, and Anfield great Mohamed Salah started his farewell tour with the game-winning goal.
In the 36th minute, Ngumoha broke the impasse with a skillfully executed solo goal. Despite a defender’s attention, he created a yard of space to curl into the far right corner for 1-0. At 17 years and 225 days, Ngumoha breaks Michael Owen’s record as the youngest player to score a goal at Anfield in the Premier League.
Four minutes later, Salah clinched the victory with a volleyed finish, his 20th goal contribution for Liverpool across all competitions this season (11 goals and 9 assists), his sixth league goal of the year, and his first since the Egyptian striker declared his summer departure from Liverpool.
Additionally, it’s Salah’s 108th goal at Anfield in his Liverpool career.
The victory by Arne Slot’s team was Liverpool’s 1,500th league victory at Anfield in the team’s history.
The Reds advanced to 52 points from 32 games, two points behind Aston Villa in fourth place in the competition for a position in the UCL for the upcoming season.
