Due to his suspected involvement in anti-party activities, former Senator Chuka Utazi has been placed on indefinite leave by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State’s Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area.
Utazi officially joined the APC in 2024 after serving as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) senator for the Enugu North Senatorial District from 2015 to 2023. However, grassroots party leaders are angry over his recent activities.
The Uzo-Uwani party officials accused Utazi of participating in actions that were seen to be against the APC’s interests in a written notification sent to Barr. Ugochukwu Agballah, the state chairman of the APC.
Chief Chris Ajodo (LGA Chairman), Hon. Pius Diara (Secretary), and Hon. Albert Aniebonam (Nkpologu Ward Chairman) all signed the letter together.
The letter claims that Utazi’s Nkpologu Ward reported him for supporting Governor Peter Mbah’s bid for a second term ahead of the 2027 elections and for attending meetings of the PDP Enugu North Zonal Chapter.
The letter further mentioned the senator’s alleged involvement in public criticism and “de-marketing” of the APC in Enugu State through interviews and utterances that purportedly damaged the party’s reputation. It further stated that “these allegations were backed up by online video evidences as the case may be.”
A disciplinary committee was established on April 8, 2025, to look into the concerns, the party leadership further disclosed. The letter claims that Senator Utazi was invited to defend himself by the committee, but he did not accept the invitation.
The local government established a three-member disciplinary committee on August 4, 2025, after receiving the aforementioned complaint. The committee duly asked the senator to appear before the disciplinary body and informed him of the petition.
However, the Respondent disregarded the invitation. Notwithstanding the aforementioned, the committee thoroughly investigated the claims and returned a “guilt” decision.
The committee’s findings, which included video evidence, were submitted to the local government executive committee on 12th April 2025. After a careful review, the leadership endorsed the committee’s recommendation for indefinite suspension.
“The committee found the conduct of Senator Utazi highly disappointing, repugnant and unbecoming of a bona fide member of APC, and hence, recommended his indefinite suspension from the party.
“Upon the receipt of the report of the Disciplinary Committee on 12/4/2025 and after careful examination of same, including the video evidence enclosed thereto, the Local Government Executive unanimously approved the recommendation of the Disciplinary committee, and hence, endorsed the indefinite suspension of former Senator Chuka Utazi from All Progressive Congress (APC) for anti-party activity in accordance with the Constitution of our great party,” the letter added.
The notification was also copied to the party’s state leader and Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji (Nwakaibie).
