Sunday Oliseh, a former captain of the Nigerian national team, has once again expressed his opposition to the trend of appointing foreign head coaches.
As per Oliseh, capable local coaches are not receiving the consideration they deserve.
While speaking on Channels Sports on Sunday, the former Juventus and Borussia Dortmund midfielder made these comments.
I am totally against having that role not being handed over to a Nigerian because we have qualified Nigerians who can do that job,” Oliseh said.
His remarks come as the Super Eagles are currently coached by French-born former Mali international, Éric Chelle.
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, appointed the 47-year-old to take over from interim coach Augustine Eguavoen in January 2025.
Chelle remains unbeaten in charge of the three-time African champions, having recorded three wins and two draws, including the 1-1 draw with Russia in June.
