Edwin van der Sar, a former goalkeeper for Manchester United, is urging head coach Ruben Amorim to provide Andre Onana and Antony another opportunity to regain the trust of Red Devils fans in the upcoming season.
Last season, Antony and Onana faced criticism for their performances while playing for Amorim’s side.
In the latter half of the previous season, Amorim’s squad lost the Brazilian winger, who went on loan to Real Betis.
Onana has committed numerous significant errors since transferring to the club from Inter Milan two years ago.
The Cameroonian is rumored to be leaving the Red Devils, with Aston Villa’s goalkeeper Emi Martinez being connected to a summer transfer to take the place of the former Ajax shot-stopper.
Van der Sar, however, wishes for Amorim to reinstate Antony in his squad and to maintain Onana as his first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season.
In response to a question regarding Man United’s transfer activities this summer, Van der Sar told The Sun:
Van der Sar informed The Sun, “They [Man United] are heading in the right direction [with their transfer activities this summer].”
“Perhaps Garnacho will leave. While I’d suggest bringing Antony back, I’m uncertain about its realism,” he stated.
Speaking about Onana, the Dutchman continued in a separate interview with talkSPORT, “He’s not been consistent in his performances this year.
“With the qualities he has, he should be able to play for Manchester United, of course, for next season.”
