A law that would forbid same-sex marriage and all associated activities has been proposed by the Kano State Government to the State House of Assembly. In order to prevent same-sex marriage and all associated activities, the Kano State Government has urged the State House of Assembly to introduce legislation.
This came after a decision made at Wednesday’s State Executive Council meeting.
The council called on lawmakers to support the initiative by passing legislation that would put an end to such practices throughout the state, in a statement signed by Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Islamic Sharia law, which prohibits same-sex marriage and imposes severe penalties on those who engage in it, is already in effect in Kano, which is in northern Nigeria.
