The Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU, chapter at the University of Jos has declared that it will go on indefinite strike in protest of its members’ unpaid June salaries.
According to ASUU, the industrial action will go into full force on Friday, July 4 at 12:00 a.m.
Journalists in Jos, the capital of the Plateau State, were given access to a press release signed by Prof. Jurbe Molwus, the chairman of the University of Jos Branch, on Thursday.
He said that the decision followed a resolution of its congress, held on June 4th, 2025.
It reads: “This is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for the month of June is not paid by 11:59p.m.
“This is in line with the extant resolution of the National Executive Council that branches should take action when salary is not paid by the third day of a new month.
Additionally, it is consistent with our resolution from the June 4 congress that upheld this stance.
“The action will go into effect on Friday, July 4 at 12:00 a.m.,” he stated.
Until otherwise stated, the chairman urged all members to adhere to the directive.
To ensure complete compliance, he said, its strike monitoring team would be activated.
