Finance Minister Wale Edun and the Federation’s accountant general, Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, have been called to resign immediately by the Coalition for Equity and Accountability in Public Finance, or CEAPF, on the grounds that they have failed to reimburse contractors for projects that were properly included in the 2024 budget and completed by local companies. Segun Daramola, the coalition’s president, and Isaac Idachaba, its secretary-general, signed a statement on Wednesday stating that if the two officials do not voluntarily leave their positions, the coalition would formally approach the National Assembly and lobby lawmakers from all parties to pass a vote of no confidence on them.”This is a deliberate dereliction of duty; it is no longer just an administrative delay,” the statement said. Despite completing legally supported projects that were authorized and financed by the 2024 Appropriations Act, contractors are still unpaid and forced to file for bankruptcy. In the meantime, projects not covered by the 2024 or 2025 Appropriations Acts are being carried out and funded by the Federal Government. The statement reads, “This is unacceptable, reckless, and illegal.”
