Why I Support Ebonyi Athletes in Competitions: A Cricket Fan

Chika Okoro, an Ebonyi State cricket enthusiast, has provided explanations for why, whenever the state government is unable to do so, he consistently funds state contingents to national cricket championships. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki on Monday, Okoro stated that his goal was to prevent athletes from becoming rusty from a lack of contests. According to NAN, Okoro has continuously funded cricket players to play for the state in national tournaments, despite the government’s inability to provide contingents each time. The state cricket team he supported became Ebonyi’s only contingent at the most recent National Sports Festival in Abeokuta.”Seeing my state not participating in national competitions is worrisome,” stated Okoro, the Nigeria Cricket Federation’s South-East Representative. The former Nigerian cricket player stated that his main source of motivation was to watch young players he developed demonstrate their abilities at the national level. “In honor of my late wife, I established a scholarship program that helps aspiring female cricket players pursue their education while participating in the game.” My love for the game compels me to sponsor these cricket players when I witness them training for months and the state is unable to pay for their competitions. “I fully support their camping, and I can’t stand it if they miss competitions, which would make the camping pointless,” Okoro stated.
