2027: APC senatorial candidate from Imo East Enwere declares he will not be competing.

Before the party primaries, Belusochukwu Michael Enwere declared his intention to withdraw from the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial contest for Imo East.

On May 17, 2026, Enwere released a statement announcing his choice.

In advance of the 2027 general elections, he said he resigned following discussions with his family, supporters, political associates, and party leaders.

I have made the decision to withdraw from the Imo East senatorial race after extensive discussions with my family, supporters, political associates, and leaders of our wonderful party,” he declared.

The decision was made “in the interest of peace, unity, and the progress of our people,” according to the APC candidate.

Although this choice was difficult, it was made for the sake of harmony, peace, and the advancement of our people, he stated.

Enwere praised the APC, Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State, and President Bola Tinubu for their support throughout the campaign.

“Mr. President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; my governor, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma; and our great party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the opportunity and support given to me throughout this process,” he declared.

According to the DAILY POST, Enwere’s withdrawal coincides with the primaries scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2026.
