Umar Ardo, the League of Northern Democrats’ convener, gave an explanation on Wednesday for the slowdown in the political coalition’s drive to overthrow President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Ardo revealed that an ideological conflict is currently plaguing the coalition.
According to the DAILY POST, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers and Kaduna State Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai, along with former Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi, are negotiating to establish an alliance to run against Tinubu in 2027.
He said that the coalition’s leaders and majority members supported merging into an already-existing political party during his appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday.
However, Ardo disclosed that a different coalition faction supports the registration of an entirely new political party.
“I think the coalition will stand,” he stated. These snags typically occur throughout the developmental stage, but they will eventually smooth out.
In essence, the coalition does exist; it is simply split along ideological lines.
“Well, I mean approach — how to approach politics — when I say ideology.
One group, to which I belong, is in favor of creating a completely new political party, while the majority of coalition members and even its leaders are in favor of merging into an already-existing political party.
This is truly the current situation, and I am unsure of the leaders, important stakeholders, and coalition movers’ final choice.
“However, we are adamant that the coalition’s strategy of creating a new political party is the most effective way to handle this transitional politics, and I believe that it will be successful.”
