Abdullahi Yakasai, President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement in the North-west, has maintained that the North continues to firmly support the president ahead of the general elections scheduled for next year.
Yakasai denied rumours that Tinubu has lost support in the North during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday.
In advance of the 2027 elections, he characterised such allegations as politically motivated by opposition parties.
I believe that claims that Mr. President’s political base and support are no longer present in the North-west are merely negative political remarks.
“To be honest, I think the northern part of this country should be happy about what Mr. President has done,” he said.
In response to worries about deteriorating living conditions, Yakasai said that President Tinubu had taken important actions to improve development and governance at the local level.
He maintained that state and local governments, not just the federal government, have many duties related to the welfare of their citizens.
