The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the deaths of four people following a tragic accident involving three trucks during the annual Eggon carnival in the Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The Nasarawa State Sector Commander, Yahaya Sabo-Adikwu, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the incident occurred on Sunday, December 28, when a truck plowed into a procession moving from the Palace of the Aren Eggon to the carnival venue at Eggon Community Secondary School. In addition to the fatalities, several individuals suffered various injuries and are currently being treated at the Nasarawa-Eggon General Hospital. Sabo attributed the crash to reckless driving and stated that the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital. An eyewitness reported that the primary truck lost control before hitting the crowd, followed by two other trucks crashing into the scene from behind. The witness criticized the drivers’ recklessness and suggested that drivers of articulated vehicles should undergo drug testing to improve road safety.
