An estimated 30 women and girls were kidnapped after armed groups attacked the Chacho community in the Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Saturday evening.
The incident, which also resulted in one resident being wounded, was reported in a post shared on X on Sunday by security analyst Bakatsine.
According to Bakatsine, the attackers invaded the community at night and abducted the women and girls, including a bride and her bridal party, just a few hours before the scheduled wedding ceremony.
Bakatsine wrote: “Bandits stormed the Chacho community in Wurno LGA of Sokoto State last night. They wounded one person and seized at least 30 women and girls, among them a bride and her bridesmaids, during the incursion.
“A day intended for happiness and celebration was ruined as bandits launched their attack and inflicted injuries. How much more suffering must ordinary families withstand before they achieve security?”
As of the moment of this report, government authorities have not released an official comment regarding the assault.
