Armed bandits, believed to be Fulani militias, recently attacked the Mwar community in the Chakfem Chiefdom of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to two others. Friday Derwam, the Public Relations Officer for the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), confirmed that the invaders struck between Saturday night and Sunday morning, overpowering local Mwaghavul vigilantes and successfully rustling cattle belonging to the natives.
The MDA spokesperson stressed that the attack was unprovoked, as the heavily armed invaders immediately opened fire on unsuspecting youths. He denied reports suggesting the attack was a reprisal, stating there was no evidence of any prior attack by the natives. Derwam mentioned that while the identities of the cattle rustlers are difficult to determine because cattle rustling is an organized crime, the victims killed were Mwaghavul youths, and the incident has been reported to security agencies. Another resident confirmed that the community is currently deserted, with residents fleeing to neighboring villages, and called for increased security surveillance in the Chakfem area, which has become a frequent target for these attacks.
