Drug abuse is turning into a national issue, according to the NDLEA.

The rising rate of substance misuse in Nigeria has alarmed Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, rtd, the chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), who has warned that drug dependence is quickly turning into a national emergency.

Speaking at the third “Fly Above the High” conference in Abuja, Marwa stated that families, communities, the economy, and national security are all seriously threatened by the escalating drug problem.

“Personal development, societal development, the economy, and national security are all impacted by substance abuse,” he stated. Mr. Marwa emphasised that drug misuse is undermining the future of many young Nigerians and necessitates a national response involving government agencies, schools, families, and community leaders. He called for swift and coordinated action to confront the threat.
