Barrister Timothy Odah, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and ex-Commissioner in Ebonyi State, officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision, announced during a visit to the APC Secretariat in Abakaliki on Monday, was motivated by a desire to support leaders working for the progress of the state and his appreciation for Governor Francis Nwifuru’s inclusive approach. Odah previously served the PDP as State Financial Secretary and Legal Adviser.
Odah’s central message was an urgent call for peace, unity, and collective development among political actors. He stressed that political differences should never escalate into hostility, insisting that genuine development can only be achieved through dialogue and collective reasoning, emphasizing, “There is no need for a battle when we can sit at a round table and solve our problems.” He described both the APC and PDP in Ebonyi as one political family with a shared history, warning politicians to avoid violence and destructive politics, especially during elections.
He commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for fostering an inclusive political atmosphere that has made political reunification possible and meaningful in the state. On a personal level, Odah clarified that his long absence from partisan politics was self-imposed to give younger politicians space to grow. He also voiced concerns about the lack of electricity and motorable roads in his Ukawu community, expressing optimism that his return to active politics would help attract these needed amenities. State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, welcomed Odah, praising the Governor for the peaceful environment and reiterating the party’s commitment to dialogue and collective problem-solving.
