The forthcoming presidential reception for the reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Remo Stars, has sparked intense ethnic agitation within Nigeria’s football community. Stakeholders are voicing concerns about perceived regional bias and the necessity of fairness in acknowledging sporting accomplishments.
It has been reported that Remo Stars, a privately-owned club from Ikenne in Ogun State, will be hosted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before the new season starts, following their impressive victory in the 2024/25 NPFL—this being their inaugural league title. Although many commend the award, others consider it a contentious action.
