Stopping striker Erling Haaland would be crucial for the West Africans to defeat Norway in their second match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at MetLife Stadium on Monday, according to Senegalese defender Moussa Niakhate.
After losing their first game 3-1 against France, the Lions of Teranga are under pressure going into the contest. Even though Senegal still has one group match remaining against Iraq, a second loss will put them in a challenging situation.
Senegal will play Manchester City forward Haaland, who helped Norway defeat Iraq 4-1 in their first game by scoring two goals. Norway won the group with to goals from the 25-year-old in the 29th and 43rd minutes.
Prior to the match, Niakhate, who faced Haaland during his time at Mainz and Nottingham Forest, acknowledged that the tall star might be the determining factor in the World Cup match.
