Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has accused members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to sabotage the state’s governorship election on August 15, 2026.
The governor asserted that some members of the opposition party were using anti-democratic strategies out of fear of losing the upcoming election in a statement released on Wednesday by his spokeswoman, Olawale Rasheed.
The statement claimed that internal opposition evaluations, which allegedly revealed declining public support for the party prior to the election, were the driving force behind the alleged conspiracy.They are now using anti-democratic tactics in a desperate attempt to gain power after realizing that the Osun people have rejected them, the statement said.
The governor’s side claims that opinion polls purportedly conducted between late 2025 and March 2026 showed that Adeleke’s approval rating ranged from 68 to 72 percent, while the APC’s popularity was below 30 percent.
This demonstrates unequivocally that the public overwhelmingly supports Governor Adeleke. He continued, “The opposition can already see the outcome before August 15.
The governor further said that Akin Ogunbiyi’s recent comments about President Bola Tinubu’s position have upset Osun APC factions.He asserted that the circumstances increased hostilities within the party, especially among groups associated with former governor Adegboyega Oyetola, leading to what he called “desperate political maneuvers.”
Additionally, after failing to seize power, the statement accused the opposition of trying to undermine alternative political platforms and advocating for their deregistration.
In response, Osun APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi denied the accusations, characterizing them as baseless and a sign of unease in the governor’s office.
“This is basic math,” Olabisi remarked. All of the notable politicians in their camp have departed. Take a look at Akin Ogunbiyi, Wole Oke, Fadahunsi, Ajilesoro, Dotun Babayemi, and several others.What remains of their party, then? In addition to being unpopular, their party lacks courage. Adeleke doesn’t know what he’s talking about, so the Osun people should disregard him.
