According to Professor Florence Obi, the university’s vice chancellor, they are considering hiring psychologists to speak with the more than 300 dental students of various levels who are not permitted to finish their education.
The institution has acknowledged that there were too many students admitted even prior to Prof. Obi’s term, which ends at the end of the year.
The 300 pupils are depressed as a result of the development, and some of them have even considered suicide. Although the students have resisted the proposal, the school stated that they wish to transfer the students to thirteen other colleges that also offer the subject.
The students stated in a widely shared video that they would rather be combined with the medical and surgery department than be moved to another location, which would have significant financial ramifications and increase the likelihood of repeating the year.
Under the leadership of Victory Ochuwa, the Nigerian Association of Dental Students, the umbrella organization for students, had warned UNICAL against the actions and suggested a reversal to prevent stress, despair, and suicide.
The VC told reporters in her office that they were all working for the pupils’ best interests and that they had been informing parents and students about their attempts to address the issues.

“We agree that hiring psychologists to accompany us in speaking with these students is a good idea.
As we communicate with government agencies and other interested parties, we will investigate this recommendation.
“I will make sure that this issue and others are resolved before I leave office,” she declared.
