Semi-finals of the South-South Female Cricket League

After fierce zonal action in Benin City and Port Harcourt, the stage is set for this year’s South-South Female Cricket League semifinals, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

The league is a part of the Nigeria Cricket Federation’s hectic year since the majority of players from the women’s national team have returned to club activity following their participation in the Female Yellow Greens’ victory at the 2026 NCF T20I competition.

Nine clubs from Edo State competed, including the 2024 winners Idia Royals, Adolor Amazons, Emotan Queens Cricket Club, and Ekpoma Supernova Cricket Club.

Smashers and Rangers Cricket Club are from Akwa Ibom State, while Delta Force Cricket Club, Uniport Pathfinders, and Dragons Cricket Club are among the others.

The 2024 champions Idia Royals of Benin, Smashers of Akwa Ibom, Uniport Pathfinders of Port Harcourt, and Delta Force have advanced to this weekend’s semi-finals after the zonal matchups.

The South-South Female League, Nigeria’s first women’s league, was founded in 2021 under the sponsorship of Uyi Akpata, president of the NCF and chairman of the Edo State Cricket Association.

“This league will give women’s cricket in the zone and throughout Nigeria a competitive platform to flourish.” The general growth of cricket in Nigeria depends on gender parity and equal participation in men’s and women’s cricket. Additionally, a number of domestic and international competitions are anticipated for several state senior and national women’s teams this year, according to Akpata.
