This explanation, offered during a year-end briefing in Abuja, follows a recent agreement between the Federal Inland Revenue Service and France to modernize tax systems and improve digital revenue compliance. Furthermore, President Emmanuel Macron has pledged French support to help Nigeria combat security threats and assist affected regions. While neighboring Francophone countries are distancing themselves from their former colonial authority, Idris emphasized that Nigeria will pursue any international cooperation that benefits its national security and economic growth. Regarding the controversy over the death penalty for kidnappers, the minister asserted that the government operates strictly under existing federal laws, noting that any legal modifications remain the responsibility of the National Assembly.
