The Abia State government denied that the revocation of the Certificate of Occupancy and the recovery of Abia Hotels in Umuahia was an act of political revenge against opposition politicians.
The State government clarified that it paid full compensation to the co-investor, Mr. Randi Ukanwoko, in October 2025 before it took possession of the facility in November 2025. This denial comes after Ukanwoko alleged that the government revoked, sealed, and demolished the hotel his company managed to punish him for hosting an APC event.
Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, stated that the takeover was handled legally, with the compensation money deposited directly into Ukanwoko’s personal bank account. Kanu urged the public to disregard the investor’s allegations of political persecution, accusing him of spreading falsehoods. The government also stated that the investor had breached every term of the agreement, calling this an affront. Further details were provided by the General Manager of UCDA, Mr. Kingsley Agomuo, who confirmed that the compensation was paid in October 2025 before the hotel was sealed.
