Shehu Sani on the US’s new visa ban: “Stay back, build your country.”

Shehu Sani, a former senator for Kaduna Central, has called on African leaders to focus on developing their own nations instead of traveling abroad. This appeal, shared on Wednesday via his social media account, followed a new proclamation by U.S. President Donald Trump that expands travel restrictions to include 15 additional countries, including Nigeria. Sani observed that while earlier restrictions were perceived by some as targeting specific individuals, the current policy affects a broad range of citizens, primarily from Black African and Caribbean nations. Despite the U.S. government’s justification of the ban based on security concerns, Sani argued that the policy sends an unambiguous message that migrants from developing countries are unwelcome. He concluded that the situation should serve as a prompt for these nations to prioritize internal growth and address their own societal challenges.
