The Fulani community in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State has expressed deep concern regarding the frequent killing of herders and livestock, which they attribute to local militia groups. In a statement issued Tuesday, Abdullahi Yusuf Ibrahim, the Secretary of the Fulani Community, reported an escalation in attacks and cattle rustling that he insisted must stop. He documented that between October and December 2025, over 10 herders, including children, were killed, and more than 204 cattle were stolen or slaughtered across the Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Riyom, and Mangu areas. Ibrahim warned that this surge in violence, which targets livelihoods through poisoning and theft, threatens to ignite broader communal and religious strife. He emphasized that these acts are criminal rather than traditional disputes and criticized the practice of shielding perpetrators under the guise of tribal or religious identity. Highlighting a specific event on December 15, 2025, he noted that three cows belonging to Auwal Sale were shot and injured near the Jol Community by suspected local youths. Consequently, the community has called for immediate investigations by security agencies and intervention from the Plateau State government to protect lives and property. Ibrahim urged traditional leaders and youths to reject violence and pursue peaceful dialogue, warning that failure to act decisively could transform these economic attacks into a larger humanitarian crisis.
