Imo State won the recently concluded South East Taekwondo Championships, which took place at the Dan Anyiam stadium’s Indoor Hall. Over 74 competitors from four states in the Southeast participated in the competition, which took place in a calm and comfortable setting. Imo, the hosts, won 41 medals, including 13 gold, 15 silver, and 13 bronze. Abia State finished in second with 28 medals, including 12 gold, 11 bronze, and 5 bronze. Enugu won two gold, one silver, and one bronze for a total of four medals, whereas Team Ebonyi won eight, consisting of four gold, three silver, and one bronze. During the medal presentation ceremony, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, the Imo State Commissioner of Sports, who was present to see his state win, praised the organizers.I support this initiative that gives our young people in the area access to exposure rights and grassroots development. It should be maintained in order to generate national and international champions in the future who would make the state and the region proud,” he said. The event was praised by Olympic medalist Chika Chukwumerije, who was returning to the Taekwondo management scene after a four-year absence.
